Open Door Policy

The open door admissions policy offers admission to the state's community colleges to every high school graduate or anyone holding a high school equivalency diploma (GED) without requiring Scholastic Aptitude Tests. Some programs require specific preparation for admission, and therefore have special requirements. Students enrolling in a major for an associate degree are required to take a college placement test to ensure proper class placement. Applications are accepted for credit programs on a year-round basis.

Early Admission

High school students can be accepted for early admission and may also participate in the High School Partnership program and the College Careers Pathways (Tech Prep) program through their local high school. Each college's Admissions Director can provide information on High School Partnerships and the college program coordinators work with the high school counseling offices throughout the state.

New England Regional Tuition Compact
By agreement with the New England Board of Education (NEBHE), a Connecticut student may choose to study at an out-of-state public institution at a discount when a study program is not offered at an in-state institution. At certain colleges, students may also qualify when the out-of-state college is closer to home than the in-state college offering the same program. For more information visit the .

Residency
If you have questions about whether you qualify as an in-state or out-of-state student for tuition purposes, please review the Connecticut General Statutes regarding residency (pdf).
